ILLEGAL PARKS: EBONYI STATE GOVT IMPOUNDS 30 VEHICLES

REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

Ebonyi State Government has shut down illegal motor parks within the capital city of Abakaliki.

This is part of measures to check the movement of criminal elements in the state and maintain sanity.

The Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on Transport, Mr. Fredrick Nwaogbaga, who led a task force to shut down the parks, explained that over 30 commercial vehicles caught loading in undesignated places were also impounded.

He observed that the illegal motor parks were being used to compromise government’s surveillance measures.

Mr. Nwaogbaga emphasised that those whose vehicles were impounded would be penalized as their activities contravened government’s policy and warning.

A driver, whose vehicle was impounded, and an operator of one of the illegal parks, said they created their park for “Town Service purposes” and pleaded with the state government to create designated places for their activities.

Radio Nigeria observed that illegal motor parks have been on the increase in recent times thereby causing congestion on some of the major roads and streets within the Abakaliki capital city.
