ENGINEER RAISES ALARM ON VANDALISM OF 2ND NIGER BRIDGE

REPORTER: OBY ARINZE

Few weeks after the inauguration of the 2nd Niger Bridge, some unknown persons have started vandalizing the facility.

The Engineer Representative for the 2nd Niger Bridge, Mr. Martins, disclosed this in an interview with Radio Nigeria in Onitsha.

Mr. Oluwaseyi explained that at night, some persons came and removed the metals of the expansion joint at the walk way of the bridge.

He condemned vandalism of the road fittings on the new Bridge saying that such national asset should be protected and guarded jealously by everyone.

Mr. Oluwaseyi said they had written to all the security agencies in Anambra and Delta States, including the Directorate of State Security (DSS) and the Nigerian Army, so that they would spread their surveillance and security operations on the Bridge.

He expressed the hope that the Federal Government would beef up security around the bridge to protect it from further vandalism.

On the low usage of the bridge, Mr. Oluwaseyi observed that it could be due to the security challenges faced in the South-East region.

He however, added that their mandate was to construct the bridge and open it to ease traffic on the first Niger Bridge.
