300 ABIA YOUTHS TO UNDERGO MODERN AGRIC TRAINING — OTTI

Three hundred youths in Abia State have been selected for agricultural training in Nassarawa State.

Governor Alex Otti announced this at the Government House Umuahia, during his monthly Media Chat captioned “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians.”

Governor Otti explained that his administration would continue to identify with programmes and policies that positively impact on the lives of the people.

He said that his wife, Pricilla Otti, in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, had set aside one billion naira to support women with various skills and trades in the state.

He maintained that the support to the women and youths were part of efforts of the state government to reduce unemployment.

Governor Otti explained that the training ranged from farming, animal husbandry, processing, and packaging to export all aimed at pulling people out of poverty.

The Governor also announced the rehabilitations of 13 schools each in every Local Government Area, with ten of them Primary Schools while the remaining three, would be Secondary Schools.

According to the Governor, the state government has made the teaching profession more attractive as the retirement age of teachers has been increased from 60 – 65 years and has started a discriminatory Compensation Package, among other packages for teachers in the state.

On Health, Governor Otti said within the short period in office, the government had ensured that health facilities in the state were given a facelift.

He said he he had appointed seasoned health practitioners to man various health Institutions in the state.

While disclosing that plans were on with support from Abia indigenes in the diaspora to set up the Abia Medical Village, Governor Otti, maintained that the aim was to reverse Medical tourism from overseas to Abia state.

The Governor further announced that the Abia Security Advisory Council would be inaugurated in the state with the former Chief of Army staff Lieutenant General Azubuike Ihejirika as Chairman and other security experts from Abia State.
