OTTI BEGINS RECONSTRUCTION OF OSISIOMA-EKE-AKPARA ROAD

The reconstruction of the 3.5km Osisioma-Eke-Akpara road neglected for over 20 years has kicked off in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State.
Speaking at the event, Governor Alex Otti said the measure was in continuation of the consistent efforts of his administration to restore the old glory of the city.
The Governor said the road would serve as alternative route to other major cities, including Owerri and Onitsha.
He maintained that the reconstruction was part of the strategic agenda to create many access roads into and out of Aba to ease traffic and expand the windows of economic opportunities.
Governor Otti, who expressed regret that socio-economic activities in area had crumbled, stressed that the reconstruction of the road would transform the economic destinies and fortunes of many when completed.
Governor Otti said the road, awarded to an indigenous construction company, is expected to be delivered in 12 months.
Earlier, the state Commissioner for Works, Mr. Otumchere Oti, promised the timely completion of the project.
He also explained that overlaying concrete pavement with a 50mm thick asphaltic concrete wearing course, reinforced concrete drains on both sides of the road, with surface runoff directed through a 2-kilometer-long drainage system and street lights to illuminate the entire length of the road would be adopted during the construction.
He gave an assurance that the Ministry of Works would provide thorough supervision to ensure adherence to specifications and urged the public to care for the road and avoid activities that could undermine government efforts.
In their remarks, the member representing Osisiomangwa North State Constituency, Mr. Fine Ahuama and the Transition Committee Chairman of Osisioma LGA, Chief Chinemerem Nweke, thanked Governor Alex Otti for the gesture.
They noted that the road is of great economic importance to the Aba business community as the area houses many industries.
