ONE YOUTH TWO SKILLS PROGRAMME: PARTICIPANTS SHOWER PRAISES ON GOV SOLUDO

The Anambra State Government has charged youths taking part in the Pilot Phase, Stream 2 of the One Youth Two Skills Programme of the Governor Chukwuma Soludo led administration to take advantage provided by the scheme to become economically independent.

The State Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Agha-Mba, who gave the charge when he visited about five training centres in the state on a monitoring and evaluation tour, said that the programme was yielding positive results.

He described the programme as an evolution and great initiative of the Soludo led government geared towards raising 1,000 youth millionaire annually.

The training centre visited were located in Awka South, Awka North, Aguata, Orumba North and Orumba South Council areeas.

Describing the tour as a critical component of the programme, the Youth Development Commissioner noted that the visit was aimed at ensuring effective policy implementation of the scheme in fulfillment of the Governor Soludo’s campaign promises in creating smart entrepreneur and making Anambra a skill destination hub in Africa.

Mr. Agha-Mba, while declaring that youth empowerment was top at the heart of the Governor’s programme, revealed government plans of creating 52 skill acquisitions fields for the youth in September this year, expressed the hope that the program would enable the participants to becoming experts in their chosen field of endeavour.

The Commissioner explained that the ongoing entrepreneurial classes would last for 5- 6 months.

He noted that the next stage of the programme would be the cooperative stage clustering, followed by business plan and and finally financing.

The Commissioner for Youth thanked the facilitators for the organized manner with which they were handling the training classes, assuring them of the necessary logistic support among others.

Participants who spoke with Radio Nigeria, including Miss King Calista from Awka North, Maduabuchi Ezeokafor from Orumba North, Chukwuemeka Okonkwo from Orumba North,
Chukwudi Nwosu and Chigozie Ezeike from Aguata as well as Oluchi Kalu, and Blessing Onukwube from Awka South, extolled Governor Soludo for giving them an opportunity to learn new skills.

They promised to take advantage of the opportunity given to them to be productive members of the society.

The participants were undergoing training on various entrepreneur skills ranging from ICT, cosmetology, confectioneries, taloring, solar energy installation, roofing, painting, paint production, among others.
