EXECUTIVE ARM OF GOVT URGED TO UPHOLD PROFESSIONALISM IN APPOINTMENTS
Federal and State Governments have been advised to uphold merit in making appointment into ministries and parastatals for efficiency and productivity in governance.
Guests on a Radio Nigeria Enugu Zonal Political Programme, “Political Watch”, gave the advice.
One of them, a Lecturer at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, Dr. ChijiokeAgbo said the idea of rewarding party men and friends with key positions had been counterproductive to the development of the country.
DrAgbourged the executive arm of Government to stick to professionalism to ensure speedy transformation of all sectors of the economy.
Also contributing, MrsIjeomaNnaji of the Youth Child Support Initiative expressed worry that the number of women in executive and appointive positions was still low, despite several agitations and campaigns.
She called for appointment of credible persons into positions of authority.
Another guest, the Special Adviser to the Enugu State Governor on Strategic Communications, MrIkemOkuhu said National and State Houses of Assembly should step down confirmation of unqualified persons as a way of checking lopsided appointment.
Callers in the programme urged Federal and State Governments to quickly constitute their cabinets and settle down for the business of governance while those that could not make visible impact within hundred days in office should be dropped.
