YOUTHS PROTEST POLICE KILLING OF A 20 YEAR OLD MAN IN ABIA STATE

Over two hundred youths from Afarukwu Ibeku in Umuahia Noth Local Government Area of Abia State have staged a demonstration to protest the extra judicial killing of a twenty three year old man, Chukwudike Onuoha, from Afarukwu community by a “happy trigger Police officer” in

Umuahia.

The angry youths who took to the streets pulled down some bill boards and caused gridlock on the roads.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria on the incident, one of the relations of the victim, Mr. Ifeanyichukwu Uwalaka, narrated how the victim was shot dead by a Police man in front of their compound.

He stated that the incident happened in the night after victim and his friends came back from a football match.

Mr. Uwalaka said that they had reported the matter to the Police command for further action.

When contacted on telephone, the Police Public Relations Officer Abia State Command, Mr. Geoffrey Ogbonna, confirmed the incident and expressed deep concern over the killing.

He stated that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ene Okon, had ordered for the arrest of the Police officer that shot the victim while investigation into the matter had commenced.

Mr. Ogbonna assured the people that justice must carried out in the matter and gave the name of the erring officer as Colins Apugo.
