EMULATE ABIA PEOPLE IN PROTECTING YOUR MANDATE— INEC TELLS OTHER STATES

REPORTER: JOHN MADUAGWU

Members-elect of the Abia State House of Assembly have been urged to make the welfare of their constituents paramount as they discharge their legislative duties.

The representative of the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmud Yakubu and National Commissioner in charge of Abia, Anambra and Benue States, Mr. Festus Okoye, made the call during the issuance of Certificates of Return to the members elect of the state House of Assembly.

Mr. Okoye reminded them that they must balance the glamour of the office with meeting the needs of their constituents to enable them to succeed.

The INEC National Commissioner described elections in Abia State as good example of the people protecting their mandates and being the final determinants of who governs them, urging other states to follow suit.

Earlier, the Administrative Secretary and Acting Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in Abia State, Mr. Clement Oha, noted that due to the doggedness of Abia voters, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) produced 11 members of the House, 10 came from Labour Party (LP), 2 from the Young Progressives Party (YPP) while the All Progressives Congress (APC) produced one member.

Speaking on behalf of others, the member representing Bende North, Mr. Ibekwe Nnamdi, called for concerted effort in making a new Abia possible.
