The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, says it will not relent in the fight against fake drugs and substandard products in the country.

The Director General of the Agency, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye stated this in Umuahia when she led a delegation to pay homeage to Governor Alex Otti of Abia State.

Professor Adeyeye, who was in the state for stakeholders engagement with the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs, reiterated that their mandate is to regulate, control the manufacturing of drugs, foods and other chemicals to prevent deaths of many Nigerians as a result of consumption of unwholesome products.

The NAFDAC DG while stressing the need to harness the MSME industry, emphasized the need for coordinated wholesale centers where people who market drugs and other related products could be monitored, adding that Nigerians deserved the best.

Responding, Governor, Otti promised the state government would partner NAFDAC in its fight to rid the state of fake drugs and substandard products.

Governor Otti, who lamented that lots of lives had been lost as a result of fake drugs and substandard products, explained that the state government had set up a harmonized task force to fight against negative tendencies.

According to the Governor, Abia State Government is poised to maximize the positive energy of its youths and channel them to positive ventures.

He applauded the NAFDAC DG for being passionate about her job, thereby saving the lives of many Nigerians and for her endorsement for his government.
