THREE DIE IN ACCIDENT IN ABIA

Three people have reportedly lost their lives when a truck rammed into the vehicle they were travelling in near Lekwesi Umuchieze in Umueneochi Local Government Area of Abia State.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Abia State, Mrs. Maureen Chinaka, who confirmed the incident that happened on Thursday May 15.

She said the truck being driven by one Amaechi Chucks Nwankwo, a 35-year-old male from Obowo, Imo State, lost control while descending a slope and destroyed two military barricades which he wanted to use as wage to the truck.

She noted that on getting to the third barricade which was a police checkpoint, it collided with a stationary bus, resulting in the death of two passengers on the spot, injuring five others while a third victim was confirmed dead at the hospital they were rushed to.

Mrs. Chinaka added that the corpses of the deceased had been deposited in a mortuary, whle admitted patients had been treated and discharged.

The PPRO also indicated that accident vehicle had pulled out of the ditch while the truck driver had been taken into custody.
