OBA SECURITY CLASH: ANAMBRA STATE GOVT PROMISES TO SYNERGIZE LOCAL SECURITY OPERATIONS

REPORTER: BEN ILECHUKWU

The Anambra State Government has restated its resolve to promote a synergy between its Community Vigilance group and other security operatives as part of measures to protect lives and property of citizens.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Mr. Tony Collins Nwabunwanne, made this known while addressing journalists over the incident.

This is coming on the heels of an online video, which had gone viral over a purported clash between the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG), the Youths of Oba in Idemili South and a local security network on Tuesday this week.

Mr. Nwabunwanne explained that the State Government would in no distant time unveil the Anambra State Vigilante Service at community levels in a bid to work in harmony with the security operatives at the ward levels.

Mr. Nwabunwanne noted that the harmony would help to checkmate criminal activities at various grassroots.

The Commissioner pointed out that the Soludo led administration had continued to demonstrate its interest in good governance through the grassroots development by closely working with the Presidents General and traditional rulers, even as it had engaged in reconciliation and restoration of peace among warring communities.

When contacted over the issue, the Regent of Oba, Prince Ezenwa debunked the alleged invasion of the community by operatives of South East security outfit popularly known as Ebubeagu, describing it as false.

According to the Regent, the alleged invasion was a mere misunderstanding which occurred between the Anambra Vigilante Group and Oba Youths at the point of identifying their leader.

Prince Ezenwa, while appealing for government presence in the community, called for collaboration between security outfits to forestall future occurrences.

The Oba leader applauded Governor Soludo for putting in place an improved security architecture in the area.

He maintained that there was no infiltration of operatives of Ebubeagu in the area and that the sienna vehicles that drove into his palace on the day of the dispute were members of the AVG, stressing that nomalcy had returned to the area.
