ABIA GETS READY AS PRESIDENT TINUBU PREPARES TO INAUGURATE POWER PROJECT

REPORTER: PEACE AGBO

President Bola Tinubu is to visit Abia State this month for the inauguration of a power generation company in Aba.

Announcing this to journalists at the Government House, Umuahia after this week’s Executives Council meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, said the Power Company, when operational, would address the long standing challenge of power supply to local businesses in the area.

He explained that the project, which had been in existence for some time, showed government’s commitment to creating enabling environment for private businesses to thrive in the state.

On education, Prince Kanu said the council was unhappy that principals and head teachers of public schools had continued to rent school premises for events during week days, causing distractions to students despite repeated warnings.

Prince Kanu, who also announced that Exco frowned at the attitude of some private schools proprietors, who reopened their schools without the required minimum standard by government, described such actions as breach of government’s directives and urged the offenders to immediately close such schools or risk government sanctions.

Also, the Information Commissioner said that efforts were on to enhance security around Umunneochi through the construction of a perimeter fence at the Lokpanta Cattle market to safeguard the trading Centre as government maintained that it remained a daily operational market.
