SEMA SETS DATE TO RELOCATE ANAMBRA FLOOD VICTIMS

The Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) says plans are on to evacuate flood victims to holding camps from next week.

In a telephone interview with Radio Nigeria, the Executive Secretary of the agency in the state, Chief Paul Odenigbo, announced that a delegation comprising the state Chief of Staff, Commissioner for Local Government and other relevant authorities had visited the affected areas.

He maintained that the holding camps were being activated.

Chief Odenigbo noted that presently, five local government areas, including Ogbaru, Anambra East, part of Awka North, Ayamelum, and Anambra West had all been covered by flood.

Chief Odenigbo therefore called on the victims to make preparations by getting their emergency kits ready for relocation to higher grounds.

The SEMA Executive Secretary said the agency and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) would embark on impact assessment of the affected areas to ascertain the level of damage done by the flood.

Chief Odenigbo expressed sadnes that houses, farmlands and property had been submerged in the natural disaster.
