NOTIFY US OF YOUR CAMPAIGNS — POLICE TELL POLITICAL PARTIES IN ANAMBRA

The Commissioner Of Police in Anambra State, Mr. Echeng Echeng, wants political parties in the state to notify the command of their activities, especially as they commence campaigns across the area.

Mr. Echeng gave the advice in a meeting with political leaders at the Command’s headquarters, Awka.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, explained that the Police Commissioner alluded to the fact that campaigns were a critical part of the electioneering process.

According to the statement, notifing the police will enable the Command to provide adequate security for the safety of participants in such events.

The statement pointed out that the Command would also deploy other tactical and operational units as well as traffic control policemen to strategic points to ensure that the existing public safety and order in the state were sustained.

It said the measures were geared towards preventing criminal elements from taking advantage of unsuspecting party faithful during the events.

The statement advised officers that would be deployed for the assignments to display high level of professionalism and operate within the context of the law.

Th statement added the the Police Commissioner, Mr. Echeng, also called on members of the public to coordinate themselves and cooperate with the police and other security agents in the course of discharging their constitutional responsibilities.
