ANAMBRA STATE GOVT DONATES REFRIGERATED VAN TO BUTCHERS

Butchers in Anambra State have been charged to complement government’s effort in ensuring healthy handling of Meat between Abattoirs and various markets across the state.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Forster Ihejiofor, gave the charge in Awka while presenting a refrigerated meat van to them.

According to the Commissioner, the van, which was donated by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, was meant to aid in healthy and safe transportation of Meat.

He noted that the use of Wheelbarrows and other unconventional means in conveying meat was worrisome, posing serious health challenges to consumers.

The Commissioner urged them to complement government’s effort by providing more of such vans for efficient transportation of meat from Abbatoirs to points of sale.

Contributing,the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Uzoka, emphasised the need for Butchers to establish good working relationship with Veterinary Technicians to ensure that people get value for their money.

Present during the presentation were the State Director of Veterinary Services,Dr Rose Ejidike, Dr. Godwin Ibekwe of the Veterinary Department, Ministry of Agriculture, some Butchers in the State among others.
