POLICE ARREST DAUGHTER MALTREATING AGED MOTHER IN A ANAMBRA

Operatives of the Police Command in Anambra State, attached to Abagana Division, have rescued an aged woman being cruelly treated by her daughter in Umudunu village, Abagana.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, the 50-year-old suspect, Ukamaka Udeugbo, is the biological daughter of the aged woman in a video clip that went viral.

The suspect was seen in the video clip flogging the naked aged woman repeatedly and threw buckets of water on her while she was lying on the floor.

The statement says the suspect has been arrested and detained for prosecution.

It states that the Commissioner of Police Anambra State, Mr. Aderemi Adeoye, has directed the transfer of the case to State Criminal Investigation Division (CID) in the public interest and has authorized that the aged woman be handed to Commissioner for Women Affairs for adequate care by the State Government.

According to the statement, the suspect is to be arraigned in court at the end of the investigation.

Meanwhile the State Commissioner for women affairs and social justice, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, has provided shelter for the aged woman as she is now under the care of the government.

The woman was immediately taken to hospital for medical examination and treatment.

Mrs. Obinabo while lamenting the extent of abuse going on in the society recently, warned offenders, especially women to be agents of change or be ready to face the law.
