The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) Imo State Command has intercepted a truck loaded with suspected adulterated petroleum product at the Okigwe axis of the state.

Addressing journalists in Owerri, the new State Commandant of the Corps, Mr. Micheal Ogar, said the truck, which was laden with forty thousand litres of diesel left Aba in Abia state and was heading for Enugu en route Kano when NSCDC officials acting on a tip off rounded up on the men conveying the product.

He explained that four persons had been arrested in connection with the alleged oil theft, noting that the manifest presented by the suspects indicated that the poorly refined product was obtained from a private refinery in Port Harcourt, Rivers State whereas preliminary investigations revealed that the product was from oil pipeline vandals in Aba.

Mr. Ogar said the Command under his watch would witness more robust intelligence gathering and discipline needed to tackle insecurity in the state.

“We have intelligence on ground, we know where they loaded the truck and they gave us fake documents, it was an illegal business and the product is not a good product, it was not well refined.

“What is happening in Imo State is over amplified. So I am very sure that very soon everything will be over because we are collaborating with other agencies in order to stop what is going on,” the Commandant stated.

Mr. Ogar, who noted that the Command had necessary logistics to achieve its mandates, appealed to residents of Imo State to always avail the NSCDC of useful information that would help to maintain peace in the area.

He said that the Command had lost three officers to trigger-happy gunmen in the state, but added that steps had been taken to boost the morale of his men.
