NSCDC ARRESTS 13 PRIVATE SECURITY GUARDS IN ANAMBRA

REPORTER: KEVIN EKEDIEGWU

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra State has arrested thirteen private security guards for illegal provision of security services without registration and operating with expired licenses.

This is contained in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Corps, Mr. Edwin Okadigbo,

The statement noted that the NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr. Chukwudi Chikere, said the arrest followed the resolve of the Corps to rid the state of quacks and stream line the private guard business by ensuring strict compliance with the law governing the sector.

According to the statement, the aim is to uproot all illegal private security guards in the state thereby creating a conducive atmosphere for the registered ones to operate without hindrance.

The statement explained that with the current security challenges affecting the nation, there was a need to conduct background checks on whoever was operating as a private security guard.

It said that one of the arrested guards, Sopuruchukwu Chinemerem, pleaded for mercy, saying he just resumed work with the company in January without prior information that the company was not registered.

The statement pointed out that the Commandant had ordered the intelligence and Investigation department of the Corps to conduct thorough investigation as soon as possible before the suspects would be arraigned in court.

The statement added that the Head of Private Guard Company Department, Mr. Francis Nnadi, who led the operation said the Corps would not relent in its efforts in clamping down on the activities of illegal private security guards, who were yet to register with the Corps as stipulated by the law.
