NAPTIP RESCUES 85 VICTIMS OF TRAFFICKING IN ANAMBRA, CRIES FOR MORE FUNDING

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in Anambra State says it has rescued 85 victims and arrested over 60 suspects this year.

The State Commander, National Agency for the Prohibition of trafficking in Persons in the state, Mrs. lbadin-Judith Chukwu, made this known in an interview in Awka.

Mrs. lbadin-lbadin Chukwu, while condemning human trafficking, noted that the agency also had eighty one cases to tackle.

On efforts by the agency in reducing human trafficking, Mrs. lbadin-lbadin Chukwu pointed out that NAPTIP had established more state commands in many states as ways of getting closer to the people.

She hinted that NAPTIP was collaborating with state governments, non-governmental organisations, market women, vigilance groups and youth organizations in making sure consequences of human trafficking was extended to the grassroots.

Mrs. lbadin-Judith Chukwu, however, enumerated shelter, transfer of judges, poor funding as part of challenges confronting the agency.

She appealed to the state and federal governments to assist in providing NAPTIP with inputs for efficient service delivery in the fight against illicit trafficking in persons.

She also advised parents to give birth to the number of children to cater for and not to entrust their children to relations of questionable characters and inculcate good morals into their children.
