FG ROLLS OUT CASH GRANT, GEEP, OTHER EMPOWERMENT SCHEMES IN EBONYI

In line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to lift one hundred million Nigerians out of poverty, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has rolled out Cash Grant to vulnerable groups in Ebonyi State.

In a message at the official roll out of the Grant and launch of Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) at Government House Abakaliki, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Hajiya Umar Farouk urged the beneficiaries to invest the money wisely.

The Minister, whose message was delivered by the Director Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Peter Nwakpa, explained that the Cash Grant to Vulnerable Groups and the GEEP were part of the Federal Government’s National Social Investment Programme (NSIP).

She said about 3,122 persons had been captured as beneficiaries of the Cash Grant in Ebonyi State and would receive #20,000 each while 1,840 persons would benefit from GEEP categorised as Trader Moni, Market Moni and Farmer Moni.

The Commissioner for Human Capital Development in Ebonyi State, Mrs. Ann Aligwe, said though the state government was pleased with Federal Government’s poverty alleviation schemes, there was the need for more vulnerable persons to be accommodated.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for the intervention, noting that the grants would be effectively utilized.

Highpoint of the event was the symbolic presentation of cheques to the GEEP beneficiaries as they await Bank alert which was promised to arrive in the next 24hrs.
