LAMENTATIONS IN ANAMBRA EAST LGA AS FLOOD RAVAGES COMMUNITIES

REPORTER: IFEANYICHUKWU CHINWUKO

Natives and residents of communities in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State are crying for assistance as they face existential threat occasioned by the surging flood.

The people made this known to journalists when a combined team of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on 2022 flood Impact Assessment Tour visited the area.

Speaking on the sad development, a 75-year-old man from Enugwu-Otu Aguleri, Pa Chukwuemeka Adili, who was seen evacuating his family members and household items, lamented bitterly that the flood had brought so much socio-economic challenges on them.

The story was the same for an elderly woman, Mrs. Nneka Mgbakwu, who cried out that the rampaging flood destroyed her rice plantation cultivated in over three plots of land

For a community leader from Umueri, Mr. Francis Okoye, the flood had dealt with them heavily as schools within the riverine areas had shutdown because the surging flood had overflown educational facilities.

Recounting her ordeal to Radio Nigeria, a nursing mother from Mkpunando, Mrs. Onyedika Nneke, expressed sadness over her inability to access health services as the health facility in her area had been submerged by flood.

Radio Nigeria observed that all the locations visited were only accessible through the waterways.
