Gunmen have again struck a police divisional headquarters at Mbieri in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State and freed all suspects held in custody at the facility.

The hoodlums were said to have invaded the police division around 10.30 pm on Wednesday and engaged the police officers on duty in a gun battle.

Reports say two Policemen on duty sustained gunshot injuries during the attack while one policeman went missing.

It was alleged that the gunmen made away with mobile phones belonging to suspects in custody and those of police operatives at the division.

The gunmen were also said to have vandalized the facility after overpowering officers on duty who tried to put up resistance.

The Police Public Relations Officer Imo State Command, Mr. Orlando Ikeokwu, who confirmed the incident, said the injured officers were receiving treatment at a hospital while the missing police officer had surfaced.

He said the police had commenced investigation into the attack.

The attack is coming less than twenty-four hours after hoodlums razed police divisional headquarters at Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state and two days after gunmen wreaked havoc at Police headquarters and Correctional centre in Owerri.
