PIPELINE EXPLOSION: SENATE COMMISERATES WITH ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT, CONDEMNS ERECTING BUILDINGS AROUND PIPELINES

A delegation of the Joint Senate Committee on Downstream Petroleum and Police Affairs led by Senator KabirMarafa has visited Abia State for on the spot assessment of the recent pipeline explosion at Osisioma Local government area.

In courtesy visit to Governor OkezieIkpeazu, the leader of the delegation, Senator KabirMarafa, conveyed the condolences of the Senate to the government and people of State over the tragic incident.

The Senator stressed the need for policies to discourage the erecting of structures around pipelines, saying that such moves could avert disaster.

The Chairman of the Joint Senate Committee commended the Governor for peace and security in the State.

Responding, Governor Ikpeazu called for the removal of the seal of secrecy in pumping petroleum products, noting that it could curb the incidences of sabotage against the products.

The Governor thanked the Senate for identifying with the State, and described the incident as unfortunate.
