SOME PEOPLE INJURED, PROPERTY DESTROYED IN OMOR-ANAKU COMMUNAL CLASH

Some persons are reportedly injured and houses destroyed in Anaku and Omor Communities of Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra State.This followed a communal clash that erupted in the area.The two communities share boundaries and are known for farming activities.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the clash ensued following dispute over portions of land, which the two communities claim ownership to.

An eyewitness, Mr. Mike Nebife, from Omor narrated that the local government Chairman had resolved the dispute in 2020 in their favour and expressed shock over the latest development.

He alleged that on Friday, Anaku people invaded the said land started erecting Beacons and attacking other farmers who later ran home with several machete wounds.

According to Mr. Nebife, later in the night, some Anaku people allegedly blocked the road and started destroying houses and injuring more people including a former Chief Justice of Anambra State, Justice Paul Obidigwe, while returning back to his Country house in Omor.

The President-General of Anaku, Mr. Friday Nwuba for his part, also alleged that Omor people invaded the community on Sunday morning destroying houses of notable persons in the area while some people were feared dead.

Mr. Nwuba therefore appealed to government and security agencies to urgently come to their rescue to avoid further destruction of lives anf property in the area.

Confirming the incident to Radio Nigeria, the Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, Mr. Tochi Ikenga, said upon receiving the information, the command deployed a police team there and that the area was presently calm.

Mr. Ikenga urged residents, especially those in the area not to panic but work with the Police and other security agencies in identifying the bad elements among them.
