SIT AT HOME ORDER PARALYSES ACTIVITIES IN ENUGU

Reporter : CHUKWUBUIKE MADU

Social, economic and academic activities were on Monday grounded in Enugu metropolis. This followed the sit-at-home order announced by the proscribed Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB). Radio Nigeria observed that banks, filling stations, markets, shopping malls, recreation centres, motor parks and many government offices were closed.

Schools were also affected as only candidates sitting for the on-going National Examination Council (NECO) Senior Secondary Certificate Examination were in school sitting for Mathematics.  Some parents told Radio Nigeria that they woke up very early in the morning to take their children and wards to the examination centres for the NECO examination for the fear of the unknown.

Roads in Enugu were deserted as a few privately owned vehicles and commercial tricycle operators were occasionally seen on the road. Following the development, some children were seen playing football on the deserted roads. However, there was peaceful atmosphere in Enugu while the sit at home order lasted as no one or group was seen harassing those moving about
