SIT AT HOME ORDER CRIPPLES SOCIAL & BUSINESS ACTIVITIES IN NNEWI
Reporter : BEN ILECHUKWU
Commercial activities were Monday grounded in Nnewi following the sit at home order by the Indigineous people of Biafra (IPOB). Radio Nigeria observed that markets, street shops, banks and parks were under lock while the ever busy Bank Road and other adjoining roads were deserted by residents.
In an interview, a business man, Mr. Chijoke Ogbonna, said the order was necessitated by the prolonged stay of Mazi Nnamdi Kalu in jail without trial. He appealed to the Federal Government to employ diplomacy in finding a lasting solution to the agitation.
Another respondent, who pleaded anonimity, called for intensified security checks to the sit at home order to prevent hoodlums from hijacking the situation. Yet another respondent, Mrs. Chioma Mekowulu, said she was unhappy about the situation, stressing that her business which she depended on to fend for her family would have to suffer because of the order.
Meanwhile, security agents were seen patrolling in their vans to ensure that the situation did not escalate to violence.
