IMO WINS MAIDEN SOUTH EAST BASKET TOURNAMENT

The Imo State Basketball team has emerged winner of the just concluded South East Basketball Tournament held in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.

Speaking shortly after the competition, the Coach of the Imo State Basketball team, Victor Ogugua, expressed joy for his successful outing.

Despite emerging victorious, Coach Ogugua said the Imo State Team would review their performance and get ready for the next level of the competition.

He stressed the need for young persons to combine education with sports to create a bright future.

The Coach said they were making efforts to encourage the athletes to build a better career in basketball.

For his part, the Head Coach, Abia Stars Basketball, Oriakhi Osagbovo, appreciated Governor Alex Otti; Abia State Commissioner for Youth and Sports and the Abia State Director of Sports, Mr. Obioma George for their efforts in promoting basketball in the state.

He expressed optimism of raising a formidable team for the state, irrespective of their performance in the just concluded tournament, adding that losing out with a point would not dampen their spirit.

Also, the Abia Stars Basketball coach, Chinedu Stone, and the Secretary, Mrs. Pascaline Edozie, said the Abia team played well as the margin for their defeat was only one point.
