SEMA & NEMA ASSESS FLOODED ANAMBRA COMMUNITIES

The Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) says plans are on to provide support to communities being ravaged by flood in Anambra West Local Government Area.

The Executive Secretary of SEMA, Chief Paul Odenigbo, stated this when he led a team for an on-the spot assessment of damage occasioned by this year’s flooding in the area.

The SEMA boss noted that the essence of the tour, done in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency, (NEMA), was to avail the agencies the opportunity of having first hand information on the extent of havoc done by flood in Anambra West.

The SEMA boss however announced that those displaced by the flood would soon be relocated to holding camps until the waters receded.

For his part, the Zonal Coordinator, NEMA in South East Zone, Mr. Thinkman Tanimu, assured that his agency would do everything within its powers to collaborate with SEMA in ensuring that succour got to the people affected by flood in Anambra West LGA.

The Transition Committee Chairman of Anambra West, Mr. Felix Ikechi, who was part of the Assessment team, commended SEMA and NEMA for their untiring efforts towards mitigating the plights of his people.

A farmer and native of one of the communities in the area, Mr. Abora Simeon, appealed for urgent government intervention as the flood had brought so much pains to the communities.

Communities visited the assessment team visited included Olumbanasa and Inoma.
