POLICE ARREST 21 YEAR OLD GIRL FOR TRYING TO SELL 4 YEAR OLD BLOOD SISTER IN ABAKALIKI

REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

Police in Ebonyi State have arrested a 21 year old lady, Peace Mathias, for allegedly selling her four year old younger sister for one hundred and fifty thousand Naira to a suspected notorious trafficker, one Ebubechukwu Opara.

The Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr. Aliyu Garba, made this known while reuniting the trafficked child and her parents at Command Headquarters in Abakaliki.

The 21 year old Peace Mathias, from Ezza North Local Government Area, is the first child of her parents while the buyer of the girl, Ebubechukwu Opara claimed that she was a mother of three girls from Onitcha Local Government Area and needed to adopt a son.

They were arrested at one of the Mass Transit Parks in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, following a disagreement between the two suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aliyu Garba, explained that they were busted when Peace showed up with a baby girl to the disappointment of the trafficker who was expecting a baby boy.

Mr. Garba noted that twenty-eight under aged children trafficked in and out of Ebonyi State were also rescued pointing out that twenty-six of them had been reunited with their family members while two whose names were given as Chidera Dimkpa and Samaila Voto were still in police custody as their parents could not be traced.

One of the suspects, Peace Mathias denied selling her sister claiming that she wanted to set the trafficker up.

The suspected trafficker, Ebubechukwu Opara, said she discussed about adopting a male child with Peace not knowing that she went and brought her baby sister.

Peace parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mathias Nweke, who were at the Police command to take their baby back home, commended police for their efforts and called for the prosecution of their daughter.
