The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo state has advocated an all inclusive security summit to find ways of ending the deteriorating security challenges facing the state.

Addressing a news conference at the Party Secretariat in Owerri, the Chairman of the party, Chief Charles Ugwu noted that the current use of force and shoot at sight order employed did not seem to be yielding desired result.

He alleged that repeated calls on the state government to convoke a genuine stakeholders meeting on safety and security in the area had been ignored rather the APC led administration opted to militarized the state.

Chief Ugwu frowned at the alleged killing of security agents by gunmen; the murder of an APC Chieftain, Ahmed Gulak; burning of Police facilities and INEC offices, intimidation as well as killing of Imo youths and called on the state government to be alive to its responsibilities.

The PDP alleged that the security situation in Imo was worsened by the internal wrangling in the ruling APC in the state and some unpopular policies of the government.

The opposition party Chairman noted that time had come for stakeholders to find solution to the nagging security issues.

Meanwhile, the Imo State government while reacting to the statement by the opposition PDP, accused the party of complicity in the insecurity faced by the state.

Speaking to Journalists in Owerri, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy Mr. Declan Emelumba, however stated that the government was tackling insecurity in the state and gave an assurance that normalcy would soon be restored in the area.
