The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has raided Obinagu Ubahu Community in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State and recovered rail slippers, boots and tracks belonging to the Nigeria Railway Corporation, Eastern District.

The NSCDC Commandant in Enugu State, Mr. Afrika Valentine Ezenyimulu, who made this known to journalists in Enugu, said the Command recovered the rail materials from vandals following intelligence report.

He explained that the suspected vandals opened fire on sighting the personnel of the Corps and later escaped through the forest leaving the recovered items behind.

“They started shooting and we responded, but when we continued, they had to take-off and disappeared into the bushes.

“In fact, all efforts by my men to apprehend them failed because of difficult terrain and uncompromising attitude of villagers that refused to volunteer information on escape route of the criminals,” he stated.

Mr. Ezenyimulu noted that the incessant attacks on public infrastructure in the State had become worrisome, describing it as unpatriotic act and huge economic loss to the country.

He therefore appealed to relevant stakeholders in the area to caution their people against vandalising national assets located in their communities.

“I want to call on the traditional rulers and community leaders to do more as regards the protection of installations and government infrastructure in their domains because those facilities are meant to serve them,” Mr. Ezenyimulu appealed.

The NSCDC boss said that the Command was working with relevant security agencies to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Radio Nigeria gathered NSCDC personnel recovered from the hoodlums 133 rail slippers, 33 short rail tracks cut into sizes, rolls of electric cable, 2 long gas cylinders and other valuable equipment used in perpetrating the crime.
