PALM SUNDAY: REMAIN PRAYERFUL AND SUPPORT THE POOR — BISHOP EZEOKAFOR

Christians in Awka joined their counterparts across the Christendom to commemorate Palm Sunday. Palm Sunday signifies Christ’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem two thousand years ago, when he rode on a donkey and his followers laid palm fronds on the road in his path.

However, the 2020 celebration was remarkable because of the Coronavirus pandemic as most Christians were asked to celebrate it from their homes through live streaming arrangement.

Delivering the homily, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, the Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, asked Christians to remain prayerful in view of the current situation of things in the world. The Most Reverend Ezeokafor described Palm Sunday as the beginning of the passion week, which is the final seven days of Jesus Christ’s earthly ministry.

The Catholic Prelate therefore called on the faithful to use the week to engage in meaningful things, especially offer succour to the less privileged in the society.
