TRADERS IN GRIEF AS RAINSTORM DESTROYS SHOPS AT RELIEF MARKET OWERRI

Traders in the shopping mall wing of Relieve Market in Owerri are counting their losses as good worth millions of naira were destroyed by rainstorm.

The rainstorm pulled off the roof of about twenty-five shops in a storey building structure that housed the stores.

Narrating his ordeal, a drug dealer, Mr. Kingsley Ike, said he met the unfortunate incidence after a night rainfall.

Mr. Ike said the twenty-five stores involved were stocked with goods, which included drugs, surgical instruments, stationeries, provisions, cosmetics and weavon.

He explained that apart from the drug dealers, other affected traders were observing the sit at home orders by the government and had to rush to the market to salvage what was left of their goods.

Another trader, Mr. Valentine Njoku, lamented that he suffered a set back during the demolition in Eke Ukwu Market and another misfortune had befallen him at the Relief Market.

While resorting to self-help in putting up the damaged roof, the victims called on the state government and other public spirited individuals to come to their rescue.

Radio Nigeria gathered that some of the stores were abandoned by their owners, who could not repair the damage roof because of the amount money involved.
