NATIONAL CENSUS: NPC IS READY, AWAITING TINUBU’S PROCLAMATION— DR NWANKWEGU

The Federal Commissioner in charge of Ebonyi State in the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Jerry Nwankwegu, says the Federal Government is committed to ensuring that the postponed National Population and Housing Census holds to provide the nation with quality data for economic planning.

Dr. Nwankwegu stated this on assumption of duty at the Commission’s Headquarters in Abakaliki following his appointment by President Bola Tinubu.

Dr. Nwankwegu said the Commission was ready for the National Census but was awaiting President Tinubu’s proclamation, which was a constitutional requirement.

He described National Census as a mega project, which required the involvement of development partners and assured the people that Ebonyi State would get it right whenever the Census holds.

The Federal Commissioner urged the people of the state to participate actively in the National Demographic and Health Survey on going in some local government area.

He noted that NPC Team would soon move to Ebonyi South for the exercise, having concluded the programme in Ebonyi North Zone.

The Director NPC in the state, Mrs. Julia Manyike, expressed optimism that with the experience of the the Federal Commissioner in population management, conduct of Census would be the best in the history of the state.

Radio Nigeria gathered Dr. Jerry Nwankwegu was among the 19 new Federal Commissioner sworn in by President Bola Tinubu few days ago.
