Joint Public Service Negotiating Council Enugu State Working Towards Ensuring Payment of #30,000 Minimum Wage

The Joint Public Service Negotiating Council Enugu State says it is committed to the implementation of the thirty thousand naira minimum wage. The State Chairman of the Council, Comrade Chukwuma Igbokwe who gave the assurance while speaking with Radio Nigeria at the end of the Council’s Executive meeting in Enugu said the council was already negotiating with the State Government towards the consequential salary adjustments in line with the new minimum wage.

Comrade Igbokwe said that the Council had forwarded the letter from the National leadership of the Council requesting Enugu State Government to set up a Joint Committee of the State Government and the Council, for the salary adjustments. Comrade Igbokwe emphasized that the council was collaborating with the Trade Union Congress and Nigeria Labour Congress, on the issue as was done at the Federal level.

Some of the labour leaders including Comrade Jude Ugwuoke and Comrade Phylis Uzokwe expressed the belief that the State Government would work harmoniously with the proposed Committee for the sustenance of industrial harmony in the state. The labour leaders expressed hope that the welfare of workers would be considered.
