ABIA STATE GOVT INTENSIFIES EFFORTS TO ENSURE FREE VEHICULAR MOVEMENT THIS FESTIVE SEASON
Abia State Government is to review the condition of Ururuka Road and Umuahia – Ohafia Federal road to ensure free vehicular movement this festive season. It has also directed that immediate palliative work be executed at the Uratta axis of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Federal Highway, pending reconstruction of the road by the Federal Government.
These were part of decisions reached at the State Executive Council meeting. The State Commissioner for Information, Chief John Kalu, pointed out that the Commissioner for Finance was directed to maintain the current practice of paying workers before twenty-eight of every month.
Chief Kalu announced that the Commissioners were also asked to ensure full compliance with new Internally Generated Revenue regulations and direct all enquiries to the Internally Generated Revenue Council for clarification. The Council also called on the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development to ensure early completion of the Destitute Home Project.
On Sports development, the Commissioner for Sports was told to re-launch the School Sports Competition including Inter-School Football Competition known as Governor’s Cup, as well as procurement and distribution of six hundred table tennis boards to schools in the State.
