ABIA STATE TO HAVE SIX MINI DIGITAL HUBS, TO TRAIN 10,000 WOMEN IN BIZ SUPPORT PROG

The Federal Ministry of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy in collaboration with the Abia State Government, is to establish six mini digital hubs with free internet access across the three zones of the state.

The areas include, Arochukwu, Umunneochi, Ikwuano, Isialangwa South, Ukwa East and Ugwunagbo.

The state Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu alongside other government functionaries, announced this to journalists at the government House Umuahia, after the week’s Executive Council meeting.

Prince Kanu said the Executive council also resolved that the state government, in partnership with the enterprise development center, office of the Wife of the Governor and the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, would train about 10,000 women on capacity building and business support programmes.

According to the Commissioner, the training is aimed at equipping participants with essential information technology skills.

He stressed that the interest of the state government was to ensure that many people acquire Information Training skills.

Prince Kanu noted that the Governor Otti had sponsored the participation of 26 individuals in Cyber Security Certification examinations to enhance Cyber security expertise and fortified digital infrastructure within the state.

The Commissioner further explained that as part of the reforms in the state civil service, Certification of Administration officers in Human Resource Practice would soon commence.

He noted that officers were expected to acquire professional certificates from relevant and approved professional bodies for progression in the civil service.

The Commissioner further said the state Executive Council also approved the “Dig One” Policy Implementation Council headed by the Deputy Governor, Chief Ikechukwu Emetu, to facilitate internet penetration and fast internet access even in rural areas.

Also, the Commissioner for SME and digital economy, Mr. Mathew Ekwuribe, explained that the “Dig One” project, when launched, would minimize the indiscriminate digging of GSM cables by operators.

Answering questions from journalists, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, clarified that the People’s road Aba which was rumored to have been washed off is still under construction, maintaining that all roads being constructed by the present administration were usually certified before inauguration.
