IGP PLEDGES POLICE NEUTRALITY IN NOV 11 GUBER ELECTION IN IMO

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Kayode Egbekokun, has reiterated commitment of the police to remain neutral in the discharge of their duties during the November 11 governorship election in Imo State.

Mr. Egbekokun, in an interactive meeting with stakeholders and various political parties in Owerri, said the Police would remain impartial in providing security for voters and other officers deployed to conduct the election.

The IGP while assuring the stakeholders that the police would discipline any officer found wanting, urged the general public to report any security agent involved in bad conduct to the appropriate quarters.

“We don’t want anything that will destroy the peace of Imo State. I am here to give you assurance that the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies that are deployed to Imo State, are here to give you security so that you can thrive in your businesses and their will be economic prosperity in the state,” IGP said.

Mr. Egbetokun cautioned party supporters against use weapons or causing any form of violence during the election or they would face the full wrath of the law, when caught.

The Chairman Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers and Chairman Community Policing, Eze Emmanuel Okeke, in his reaction, urged the residents of the state to give peace a chance during and after the election, irrespective of their political affiliation.

The interactive session attracted heads of security agencies, the clergy, traditional rulers and market unions.
