FG TO DEAL WITH MALPRACTICES IN NSIP IMPLEMENTATION — MINISTER

The Federal Government has warned that it will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone found to be engaging in any form of malpractices in the implementation of the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP).

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, gave the warning in a message to the opening of a one day training for the On-Boarding of Independent Monitors for the programme in Owerri, Imo State.

She noted that the programme was part of efforts by President Muhammadu Buhari to lift thirteen million Nigerians out of poverty and called on the monitors to discharge their duties with diligence.

The Minister said the trainees would monitor programme beneficiaries within their locality in schools, households and market clusters with the focus of ensuring that the primary objectives of the programmes were achieved.

Hajiya Umar Farouk, who was represented by a deputy director in the ministry, Mr. Charles Anaelo, reminded the monitors that they would be closely supervised by officials of the ministry while their activities would also be monitored by the ministry and other stakeholders at the state level.

The Special Adviser to Imo State Governor on Sustainability Development Goals and Humanitarian services, Mrs. Christina Ude, commended the Federal Government for initiating the programme, which would help alleviate poverty in the country.

Radio Nigeria gathered that fifty-five independent monitors were engaged for the programme.
