CHILD TRAFFICKING LANDS THREE IN POLICE NET IN EBONYI STATE

Police in Ebonyu State have arrested two lovers, Michael Nwafor and Onyinyechi Nwali as well as an accomplice, Philomina Nwatemolu, for allegedly selling a baby at the cost of Three hundred and fifty thousand Naira.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs Loveth Oda, explained that the suspects were arrested following a complaint lodged before the state command by Onyinyechi’s mother, Stella.

Mrs Stella Nwali had in her report claimed that Michael Nwafor impregnated and eloped with her daughter Onyinyechi in 2019 only to resurface in 2021.

The statement further explains that Michael was subsequently arrested and in the course of investigations, led operatives to Nkpor Anambra State, where an eight months old baby baby belonging to Onyinyechi was recovered from Philomena.

According to the statement, the lovers had while confessing to the crime, claimed that they sold the baby with an aim to use the proceed to set up a business in Abakaliki.

The statement adds that the three suspects had been charged to court for child trafficking and other sundry offences.
