EBONYI ASSEMBLY PASSES BILL LEGALIZING EBUBEAGU SECURITY OUTFIT

Reporter: AMECHI ODO

Ebonyi State Government says the State House of Assembly has passed a bill to provide legal backing to the operations of the zonal security outfit, EBUBEAGU, which is already complementing security agencies in the fight against crime in the state.

The State Commissioner for Internal Security, Mr. Stanley Okoroemegha, gave the hint while interacting with journalists on the operations of the outfit at Government House Abakaliki.

Mr. Emegha explained that while the outfit had taken off in the state capital, it was yet to commence operation in the local government areas and communities due to delay in the recruitment process of personnel to serve in such areas.

Mr. Emegha urged members of the public to ignore allegation that the outfit was being used to hunt down members of the opposition party in the state.

He described those behind the insinuations as being far from the realities on ground.

According to Mr. Emegha, the operations of EBUBEAGU have reduced crime within the state capital, pointing out that the personnel are undergoing training ahead of their inauguration in the five states of the South East Zone.
