COURT RESTRAINS ORGANISED LABOUR FROM GOING ON STRIKE IN IMO

 REPORTER: CHINAZO ILECHUKWU

As the strike embarked by electricity workers in Imo State enters the third day, residents of the area have appealed to the government and the organized labour to resolve their differences to restore public power supply to the state.

This is coming as the National Industrial Court Owerri has issued a fresh interim injunction restraining the organized labour from embarking on any kind of strike in the state till further notice.

The court warned against the disobedience of its order, saying that it would attract consequences.

At a resumed hearing in a suit between the State Government and the organized labour, both counsel for the applicant and the defendants told the court that they were yet to reach a compromise on their dispute.

Justice Nelson Ogbuanya after listening to the parties reserved ruling for Nov 30, 2023 on the motion for interlocutory injunction filed by the claimants.

Justice Ogbuanya noted that the court had a duty to ensure that the labour dispute and related disagreements between the parties were not allowed to escalate and adversely affect the interests and wellbeing of the citizenry and third parties who are not involved in the dispute.

He therefore stressed the need for the parties to hold the peace till the next adjourned date.

Meanwhile, a faction of the organized labour is currently on strike over alleged insensitivity of the government to the plight of workers.
