CHILD RIGHTS IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE AND FAMILY COURT INAUGURATED IN ENUGU

Enugu State Government has inaugurated State’s Child Rights Implementation Committee and Family Court urging members to initiate appropriate measures for the wellbeing of children.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi represented by the Special Adviser on Special Duties, Mr. Uwakwe Azikiwe gave the charge during the inauguration in Enugu.

The Commissioner for Gender Affairs and Social Development in the State, and member of the committee, Princess Peace Nnaji, noted that the State Government had been in the forefront in pushing for the child rights law.

In a remark, the Chairman of Enugu State Adoption Committee and Arch Bishop, Ecclesiastical Province Anglican Communion,  the Most Reverend Emmanuel Chukwuma said the committee was poised to check illegal child adoption in the area.

In a paper presentation, the Enugu State Chief Judge represented by Justice Angela Anidi explained the essence of the family court in the society and emphasized that it  would aid juvenile justice administration.

A child rights advocate and Technical Adviser to the Ministry of Gender Affairs, Professor Peter Ebigbo was among dignitaries at the occasion as well as other NGO’S and organisations such as National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, women organisations, the Nigeria Immigration and the Police.
