ANAMBRA STATE DECLARES 14 DAYS TOTAL LOCKDOWN

Anambra State Government has declared a total lockdown in the state as a precautionary measure against coronavirus.

Governor Willie Obiano made the announcement in a state broadcast following the first index case recorded in the state.

Governor Obiano also directed the closure of all markets in the state with immediate effect from Monday 13.

According to him, the decision became necessary due to the new cases of coronavirus .

While commending the people for complying with the directive on the Covid-19 pandemic in
the area, the Governor said that the victim had been placed in one of the Protective Care Centers.

He announced that COVID-19 Committee in the state had commenced aggressive Contact Tracing of everyone the index case came in contact with for a professional handling and to save lives, urging the people not to panic.

On the measures put in place to fight the pandemic, Governor Obiano announced the two weeks restriction of movement with strict closure of boundaries with neighbouring states.

The Governor maintained that only people on essential services would be permitted to move around in the delivery of those services to the people.

He advised the security agencies to ensure that the order was kept or arrest those who disobeyed the directive.

Governor Obiano called on the people to ensure frequent washing of hands with soap for at least 20 seconds and regular use of hand sanitizers.

The Governor stressed the need for the people to contact the State Public Health Emergency Operation Center numbers on 08030953771, 08145434416, 08117567363, 08058967320 for timely response.

Governor Obiano, who thanked those who have supported the state financially, still appealed for donations to boost the capacity of the state to overcome Coronavirus.

Radio Nigeria reports that the total lockdown is with immediate effect.
