ABSU GETS NEW GOVERNING COUNCIL

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has inaugurated the newly reconstituted Governing Council of Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu with Chief Mba Okoronkwo Ukariwe as the Pro Chancellor and Chairman of the council.

At the event in Umuahia, Governor Ikpeazu said his administration would not relent in releasing the subvention of the institution.

While expressing optimism that the institution would return to its former glory under the new council, Governor Ikpeazu congratulated the Pro- Chancellor and members of the Council and urged them to work together.

According to the Goveenor, the institution grew from the 97th to 26th position in the country to emerge the second best State university in Nigeria and recently won an award from Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, (JAMB).

He noted that more could be achieved if students remained on campus.

He also explained that efforts were on to control security around Uturu and advised the Uturu and the University community to support government’s efforts to succeed.

Responding on behalf of other members, the Pro Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, Chief Mba Okoronkwo Ukariwe, thanked the Governor for the privilege and assured him that they would not fail in their duties.
