SEMA CAUTIONS ANAMBRA RESIDENTS AGAINST BUILDING ON WATER CHANNELS

The Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has attributed most flood induced challenges encountered in the state to human negligence.

The Executive Secretary of SEMA, Chief Paul Odenigbo, made this known in a message to a flood control sensitization tour of Onitsha North and South Local Government Areas.

The Executive Secretary, who was represented by a Director in the agency Mr. Chukwudi Onyejekwu, admonished those building on flood plains and dumping refuse inside water channels to desist from such unhealthy environmental habits.

He further enlightened people of the areas on the numerous water borne diseases and other health challenges associated with flood, advising them to imbibe healthy environmental attitudes.

In a remark, the Transition Chairman of Onitsha North Local Government Area, Mr. Onochie Ozoma, described the sensitization visit as timely.

Mr. Ozoma also assured of the Council’sstrategic partnership with SEMA in confronting flood related challenges in the area while promising to reactivate the local emergency management committee, which serves as first responder during any emergency at local level

The Chairman also promised to take the message to all nooks and crannies of the council area.
