FG CANNOT MEET ASUU DEMANDS — GOV UMAHI

REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has called on the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off its strike claiming that there is no way the Federal Government will be expected to borrow One point three trillion Naira to meet its demands.

He made the call while receiving a delegation from Board of Trustees of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund led by the Director General, Budget Office of the Federation, Dr. Ben Akabueze, at Government House Abakaliki.

Chief Umahi said though the demand of ASUU was genuine, there should be compromise on both sides, knowing that the Federal Government was also tackling challenges in other critical sectors, including security and health.

Dr. Akabueze explained that the delegation was in the state to assess the operational and infrastructure challenges confronting the Nigeria Police in the State Command to enable the Board formulate polices to meet its needs.

He noted that since 2020 when the Police Trust Fund became operational, a total of two hundred operational vehicles had been distributed to police formations across the country and called for more support to enable the police to perform better in internal security.
