59TH INDEPENDENCE: ENUGU PROMISES MORE INVESTMENT IN EDUCATION
The Enugu State Government says investment in the Education sector is key to the growth of the nation.
The Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi made this known in a statement to the people of the state during the celebration of the fifty-ninth Independence Day celebration at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu.
The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Simon Ortuanya, said the present administration would live up to its campaign promises in the revitalization of the education sector and other key sectors of the economy.
Professor Ortuanya, further commended the contributions of the national heroes in the fight for the independence of Nigeria.
Similarly, the Commissioner for Education, Professor Uchenna Ezeh, said marking the day demanded reflection on unity, which was part the aspirations of the founding fathers of the country.
He encouraged the leaders to embrace unity and also noted that education would serve as a tool to achieve a true and prosperous nation.
The traditional ruler of Agu-ikpa Oruku Autonomous Community, Igwe Collenus Anike Nomeh, thanked God for the nation, saying that despite the challenges confronting the country, Nigeria had remained one.
He advocated mutual coexistence amongst the numerous ethnic extractions to move the country to a greater height.
The celebration, which featured match past at the venue of the event, had College of Immaculate Conception (CIC) and the Queens School Enugu emerge first positions in the Boys and Girls Secondary Schools segment.
While in Primary Schools and Special Education segments, Sacred Heart Primary school and Oji River Special Education Centre emerged the first positions.
