The Assistant Inspector General of Police,  Mr. Danmallam Muhammed has charged officers and men under the Zone to always act within the ambit of the law as well as conduct themselves professionally while discharging their duties.

In a press statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Zone,  Princess Nkiruka Nwode,  the AIG said officers and men must respect citizen’s human rights as enshrined in the constitution. According to the AIG, the Zone will ensure that the directives of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) are strictly adhered to through the supervision of the commissioners of police in Anambra and Enugu States.

*The AIG stresses specifically that “no personnel of the zone is to embark on patrols or any assignment on mufti but must appear in their police uniform or approved tactical gear with a police Identity card hanged appropriately.”

He warns policemen within the zone, especially “the tactical squads to desist from invasion of privacy of citizens through unauthorized search of their mobile phones,  laptops and other smart devices as any erring policeman will be dealt decisively with.”

The AIG also directs Commissioners of Police in Anambra and Enugu States to immediately organise training for the SARS commanders and the sector commanders of the tactical squads.

They are to be lectured on the need not to use excessive force and to concentrate on the standard operating procedure of the force while responding to solely cases of armed robbery,  kidnapping and other violent crimes.

Mr. Mohammed orders the Commissioners to re-direct their X-Squad and Monitoring Unit to embark on immediate and massive monitoring of activities of SARS, Tactical Squads and other Police officers to ensure implementation of the IGP’s directives.

The AIG urges members of the Public not to submit to any illegal stop and search, stressing that a pat-down can be allowed if there’s cause for suspicion.

He appeals to members of the public to report policemen who deviate from the procedural ethics through the Zonal distress phone number
