OTTI SIGNS DIG ONCE POLICY

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has signed the operation “Dig once policy” in the state.

The policy is part of efforts to reduce incessant losses and internet disruptions arising from the destruction of underground cables and other infrastructure in the course of construction projects in Abia State.

The policy is also aimed at regulating and directing the laying and installation of underground broadband technology infrastructure for individual and enterprise use in urban and semi-urban communities.

Performing the ceremony at Government House Umuahia, Governor Otti explained that the policy would guide technology companies, construction outfits and all other entities whose activities and business involve excavation, laying of cables and installation of underground utilities infrastructure and technology assets.

According to the NIMET the boss, his focus is to make high speed internet widely accessible to individuals and businesses in methodology of adopting smart enterprise initiatives, improved innovation and expanded access to global markets.

Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Kenneth Kalu, noted that the policy would protect Abia roads from destruction by communication companies and expressed his optimism that the Council would deliver on its mandate.

The event featured the inauguration of members of the implementation council of the policy headed by the Deputy Governor, Chief Ikechukwu Emetu.
